Simon Spurr - highly reguarded show during the fashion weeks for obvious reasons.... 42 looks summing up my life - this far. This one speaks to me so I guess it's leather cropped peacoat in the spring time in Georgia....

Graphic plaid, deep pink pops (color), leather and lots of Gray - the new black? Maybe but he has that too + some white. Just some of my favorites though.

Saturday: Landlord calls me asking for rent at 8am and I've already paid it three days ago *blank stare*. Girl where my money go? Fishy!

The best part of waking up is Foldgers in your cup next to the GQ, Vogue, and Vman magazine.Working on an upcoming project - btw, I can make a star (aparently)... She needs me to direct/style a shoot for her. I'm in demand now - she passed my name on to a producer who likes the work I did for her - the next project is for a major music video! I can never take a complement well, I'm natrually arrogant, and I'm not too humble - but I have humbling experiences - this being one. Director's assistant called me to touch base and to tell me what, who, and when - this was and is going to be #epic for me

Between planning for that and the projects in my life ( moving into this house) - I have to study for this Chemistry test - of course 4.0 status, nothing less...

Usually I do shopping and lunch on a saturday, but I'm in an area where the shopping is a damn tragedy - but excellent vintage shops though... Instead of busting through racks I played dress up and setteled with something I like.

The Fit: Vintage Levis Denim Jacket (now a vest), Haynes gray V-eck, American Eagle Camo Print Sweatshorts, and Jordans - the perfect weekend steeze.

This upcoming week is full of meeting and mark-ups, planning, scheming, studying, and any other thing that would keep me busy...

My inspiration came from the Ralph Lauren store in Atlanta. The Black Label section has a pool table with famous style icons like Muhammad Ali, Lenny Kravitz, Sammy Davis Jr., and the man himself (Ralph Lauren)...

March turned into May - and May was a blur that brought me to where I am currently... In down-home, country ass Fort Valley, ugh. My summer was filled with what I expected. Three months of gettin my name out there in the industry and making $$$$ - as well as lounge and club cameos; I lived for those moments #fadedmemory.

Now I'm back to this stuff and the response I get is "I thought you were going to Morehouse? (in a moking tone, very sarcastically) - Yes, my summer was great too and yours... Whatever - people these days... I give people just enough rope to hang themselves with - and I don't explain myself. Why bother. What you see is what you get.

My summer love affair in Atlanat was lusty, luscious, and luxurious... Midtown apartement, personal trainer, great food and drinks, great friends in a socially descrimianting crowd (meaning, we were the young, fly, rich kids always making a secene (without saying not a damn thing) - you know.

Between internships, school (at Morhouse College),various jobs in styling and branding (944 Magagzine) I think I have life downpacked... I take that back - I do! Right now I'm making lemonaide with lemons, but until next semester....

At least my name is out there now - only up from here....

6 o'clock; rush back to my apartment from my workout, shower, fix this hair, but what do I wear... Throw on some Marc Jacobs, some Buurberry, can't forget about some Ralph and splash of YSL. Moisturize my situation and off to Pettigrew auditorium, but not without one more look in the mirror..

Walking in to the lobby of the Pettigrew I found my people (REMT), we had reserved seats. Surprisingly, Most people looked decent - which is a change of face for all the ones I ran into who usually look really sloppy , #FAIL but now #PASS with a golden star.. The Occasion: "Dress For Success" Seminar - this initiative is one I personally would like to see pushed heavily; ATTN: FVSU - I can upgrade u.

This wasn't just any old seminar to attend for extra credit, it was a little bit more special. The Speaker: Derrick Watkins better known as Fonzworth Bentley. #lowkey I was ecstatic - tried to play it off cool. How many times has someone like this came to FVSU since I've been here? ~~(Crickets in the background)~~, None... So I couldn't have missed this opportunity.

The question of the night: Do I bring my book? Of course I saw people with them out, but as for me I thought that would have been a tad bit de classe - TRASHY- so, I left it and brought myself. I was trying to stay true to the lessons of etiquette Mr. Bentley spells out in his book (Advance Your Swagger - How to Use Manners, Confidence, and Style to Get Ahead; get it here if you haven't yet). The lecture included excerpts from the book and other comical and useful anecdotes. While people were taking notes I was reading between the lines...My generation tends to take the words of people who've mastered success way too literally and totally miss the point #FAIL. While they were searching for the answers in notes, I realized the concepts he put out there. We laugh, we cried, we had the best and worst of times - yadda yadda yadda.. LOL. He debuted "Fireside Chat" so look out for that - very informative and captivating (Bentley, send me the finished product) The night was great but then came the end. Was I going to get my book signed or not, I gave into peer pressure (not). I and ran back to my place, grabbed the book, and stuffed it discretely into my Double-Breasted Burberry Blazer - Busting Heads, LOL - and waited in line. The next question, was I going to get a picture?

I waited and got impatient ( 5 minutes passed and I cut line). Yes, I got my book signed and mentioned the twitter comment - but didn't get a picture. Hasshim (@Mr_IAmDebonair) got a picture, Justin (@2Smoov4School) got one too, but I didn't - Damn SMH. In a attempt to be modest and maintain class, I missed an important photo opp (a lesson I learned from Hotep to take advantage of "Hustler's Ten Commandments", another Morehouse man and author). I didn't beat myself up over it (I #lowkey did), the book was signed and my presence was made. Who can forget the name and style that is Aemon - I'm waiting....

The Night was a success and I was inspired....

The Pants: Free my ankles

These got mixed reviews today. I push the envelope when it comes to style - I consider myself a professional now with a few jobs and projects under my belt - not too bad. Unfortuanately, I go to a rural school filled with people who have NEVER picked up a Vogue, GQ, V, WWD, or Vman magazine. Unfortunatley again people haven't heard of Thom Browne either.

These are crested Ralph Lauren courdoroy pants I had tailored to fit like a pair of Thom Browne pants (shrunken/ cropped) I saw in a store visited. They were tapered and hemmed about two inches - the world of a difference. Little to say people noticed, heads turned, ghetto gawks, and a trashy girl took a pic with a freakin flip phone (in 2010 c'mon)... Needless to say my confidence was tested and eventually proven. By the end of the day I didn't care anynmore.

Many people consider themselves stylish, but I can literally be the judge that. Looking neat is one thing, but being stylish you must put yourself uncharted territories to create your own identity. My look is always on the prepier side, but my signature is to play around with proportions and fits - like Thome Browne.

Many people cannot see the artistry it takes to put a look together. I pull elemets of drama, comedy, and suspense when I get dressed - do you? I take the risks necessary to keep my fashion image relevant. I validate my look when I see people turn their heads and I hear comments rangigng the gamut. It is then when I know I've hit a home run #success.

Like I said, your confidence will get tested - mines certainly has. Time when those time come up I look for inspiration. I saved this email from Marquis Phifer (Lateboots) and read it - and continue to read it - for inspiration.

Get Yourself Together...

4:50 AM Saturday morning, My co-worker comes knocking on my door enthusiastically and I ignored it at first. Then came the phone - ~~and I ignored that too~~. Then came these threatening knocks - threatening to kill my beloved full length mirror, and that's when I opened the door. I pretended to be getting ready with my toothbrush and towel in hade in route to my shower - #fail. Made it there and had no other choice but to do the holy grail (pitts and your shit) and made it on to the parking lot to board a damn bus #epicfail. Lord, what's going on with my life...

Residential Assistant convention at University of West Georgia - I believed I was kidnapped and taken to a place where I had no clue existed on a map. Loud cheers of people who took their jobs a little too seriously and Chick Fil A sandwiches - Things started to look up. Fort Valley made it's way to our respected spot on the stands and in comes Morehouse RA's - Things started to look better... I saw this as an opportunity to network.

The day was filled with seminars and role playing - non of which was beneficial to being a better RA. One person from Kennesaw State made it known he was a Drama major when he presented a whole bunch of bullshit on how the people who were giving the seminar could do better. He interrupted a skit and stated this was "melodramatic" and other stuff. Good to know your degree (soon to be) will be put to good use causing unecessary drama around our country #wheretheydothatat.

I connected with Morehouse men got some good connections and met a few girls too... Nothing could prepare me for "Sex In The Dark" seminar which was appropriately in the dark to hide the shameful faces of the people asking the most outrageous intrusive questions - ~~sign me up please!~~ #Lowkey I enjoyed it. Nothing fashionable, no lights or velvet ropes, no glits and glam - just students who have the opportunity (~~or misfortune~~) of looking after a whole bunch of wild animals for a year because that what we do damnit - we're freakinly awesome and fantastic RA's.

Twitter Talkin... And stuff

First weekend of spring semester. Stop everything, pack up Burberry carryall, grab laundry bag, throw on #allblackeverything, head up to Graystone... Sigh of relief. The campus of Fort Valley State is always dead on weekends and some weekdays too - I don't know whats up with my school. Nothing kosher takes place after dark or on the weekends - all bad everyting - I'm missing nothing anyways so home was the move plus I had work to do here up there...

My winter closet

I was on the paper trail consulting with a prospective client, sifting through a few vintage stores, and ~~resting~~ - I thought. I followed mom to the grocery store and realized I made a mistake (even though I live for an in store meltdown from time to time). I played cat and mouse for about an hour as she sent me out to get ~~shit~~ - most of which I had no clue where they were - and tried to find her, #fail. It's always good to go home though - everthing else went fine.

I had time to reflect on the week and scheme a plan for the upcoming week. 18 hours, and internship, and other projects and commitments. Oh yeah and that RA stuff I signed up for ~~(where do they get these kids from who go to this school man SMH).~~ The tests and trials and firery darts can never get a hustler down so now I'm #ontothenext...

The rain was relaxing, the rest was fine, but come Tuesday comes part deux (three day weekend - another reason I went home)... Booted in designer loafers and a carryall in hand, necks will crack and heads will turn as I walk on the yard with all black frames (I felt like Andy minus Edie last week stylewise). I'm such a man of mystery on the campus except to those who know me (FVSU's Illuminati and gliteratti) I believe the best way to increse yourself is by the people you asscociate youself with - peal of wisdom.....

These found there way into my hands... I lace it up sometimes - why not? I want to be like Mike too.

Change is so awkward. The feeling of doing something totally new is not only scary, ~~very uncomfortable~~ - overwhelming even. How do you lather so good Bentley? I want that when I shower (bubble bath standing up). I know I'm late, but I just got "Advance Your Swagger" (Barnes and Noble) for a Christmas present. Very entertaining and a must read - a necessary read (for some people). It's still on the coffee table at home, which is a perfect place for it because we have some trashy people stop by the Graystone Compound.

The jacket, the gloves, the fur... Enough said. These pictures came from the Lateboots blog. I've adored the adornments of Marquis Phifer (Lateboots) - especially the way he puts pieces together. This is a prime example - denim jacket , t-shirt, fur collar, and the orange (I call it Hermes Orange) gloves. Class is now in session, jot this down for future references. Layering is important in the winter and adds a visually appealing - and interesting - aesthetic - this is how you pull it off...

Happy New Years! 2010 is the beginning of a new decade - I'm still tripping on the last one can't believe we all survived. A new year - decade - brings the promise of a new beginning. New years resolutions are never a means to an end, but if that is you - go ahead. Everyones goal should be to do better - more sensible and easy. If you can't do that then you're just SOL. A reinvention is always in order around this time. It's always good to switch it up. You can't grow without changing - so change for the best (hope for the rest). Make this year and all times YOUR time because after all you only have one life to live -YOURS SO DO IT! Follow through with your goals is the real key to success...

WHEW! Momday - and it's homecoming in the valley! I woke up and ran with another busy, fun day. Homecoming in The Valley is going to be crazy. Dear Wednesday, why can't you always be cool, easygoing, and sunny.... Hump-day was more like bump day because it was a real good Wednesday - for real.

I woke up thinking I had tennis at 9, then I realized I didn't have it until next Monday or Wednesday - I think... At least I enjoyed a great two extra hours of sleepuntil I again realized I have a 10 page paper due next Monday or Wednesday on freaking tennis, how is that possible.

Blazer by Brooks Brothers. Cut-off shorts by Levis. Shirt and bow tie by American Eagle Outfitters. Shoes by Converse.

On the way to class heads turned - and a few laughs. I remembered an email I got from Marquis Phifer (Lateboots.com) - I'll spare the details but it was some good stuff. Basically it was about accepting your own creativity.. The financial aid ladies went crazy upon my arrival - they always complement me on my style - I'm still going there and we're two months into school....

I switched the fit a little later on... Switched the shirt and bowtie for a red Rugby Ralph Lauren rugby shirt. Swapped the regular gray converse for the Jack Purcells for tonights concept... I'm the style coordinator for Royal Elite Modeling Troupe and FVSU - enough said. The new models are coming in, which is exciting to see....

I don't know what the hell is wrong with my camera...

I'm compiling a list of must have items for fall and winter. Number 1 by far is the desert boot. I've been to a few stores and sites and found great pairs but these pair, from MUG (Minotar Urban Gear) are nice. Not only are they lined they also have a great shape to them - and that's important
to me. In fact, I'm caught up in shoe shape. Even though they're rounded, they're slimmer so that it outlines the shape of the foot. That streamline look is very important when choosing shoe - well, at least to me it is....

These are available at Gettry, but this is a trend that everyone is going to be wearing this season so you can pick up pairs at J. Crew, American Eagle, and Urban Outfitters - has a huge assortment and styles at great prices...

I really did intended on studying last night, but one thing lead to another and I ended up at the Alpha party. Made a cameo through there and headed back to the dorm. Adding edge to classics is the perfect approach to piecing thing together - like this look.

The day sets the tone for what you're wearing and you go from there. Today is a relaxed day. We all recovered from a soggy, muggy, and damp day yesterday. So, the life of an RA is not as glamorous and lush as people might imagine. Especially staying in a traditional dorm with standard industrial strength tiles and off white cinder block wall. Don't forget the metal furniture with faux wood accents and a splash of orange.
I arrived here unsure of many things and sort of apprehensive. I was anxious of how things would work out. I anticipated the critters in my room and even lost some sleep. I can now lay all of that aside because I am making it work. It's not the life I'm comfortable with (wood floors, quartz counters, wolf range, and sub-zeros fridges), but it's a learning experience. This is the experience that I asked for - I accepted the job.
I'm making it work. Brought some items to make it seem more at home. Fur blanket and pillow - check, Full length mirror - check, an artillery of designer clothes - check check... I tried to fang Sui my room. I feel a difference and it is certainly peaceful. This is most important in any place you live - dorm of apartment. Harmony is crucial when dealing with a demanding life.
Instead of chilling in the study, I now will be studying in my office - college student/ executive I'll scratch you into my schedule... No Corinthian leather chair, art collection, artifacts from my world travels - just basic. Starting from the ground up. This semester should be interesting - wait have I said that already... My new night time routine. The life of an RA is interesting and it's going to be interesting to see how I balance school, social life, and running a blog - among other projects under construction. I keep running into people asking me how my summer was - blank stare (read the blog). Yeah, I blow them off with the intern and the shadowing deal, but whatever...

The hopes are high for the upcoming school year and the year ahead. Great things in the works and a shocking move in the make - hush shhh.... I switching up my style, attitude, and overall persona. So many people don't know my personality on campus. I play it cool and keep it laid back - and people take advantage... That's not me - never was.

My night time routine now includes waking up to the door alarm going off because some freshman are sneaking out - knowing they have a curfew. The nerve of some of the boys, honestly. A new term has entered my vocabulary - rachet. I hate slang, it has no place in academia. However, there is only one word to describe the actions of the little kids.

These boy-men are called "River Men", the name is still growing on me because it could mean lots of things. Here at Fort Valley State University, we are embarking on a new initiative to ensure that these incoming students become quality adults and staples in society. I'm excited that I'm apart of this new direction and it's equally exciting this is the largest incoming class in the school's history. Dr. Said Sewell is at the forefront of this movement. This guy is awesome and I admire him. Morehouse Man, enough said.

My infatuation with this school is sickening and I am determined to make it there, it makes me excited the fact that I too can become one of the men who carry on that legacy. It's an honor to be at an HBCU period. There is no doubt in my mind that I will be one...

In 95' suburban Atlanta I was the kid with hair that all the kids wanted to touch and feel.
Assimilation was evident and all too familiar with blacks in suburbia, but that comes with with territory of living and fitting into the suburban scene. Most black people who don't understand the lifestyle will see this an a disadvantage, but it wasn't.

If weren't for the company of other black people in the area who shared similar lifestyles and goals - and got each other most of all - most kids would have somewhat lost their identity. Organizations such as Jack & Jill and other societies for affluent blacks are important for black kids in areas like I grew up because it gives us a social contact with other black kids in our area.

I was so inspired last night by watching the second installment of "Black In America", "Black In America 2", on CNN and it showed a guy who's from affluence and grew up in a similar situation to mines - a sprinkle of pepper in a salt mine. I saw me in him when he said he was called out of his name by a teacher, which brings me back to me and my 90's hair.

Racism was the case when the kids were touching my hair and calling me "carpet-head", even though it wasn't in a mean way or ambiguously hateful. It was wrong and I felt it, ultimately leading me to cut it off for a more mainstream and appropriate ceasar.

Watching "Black in America 2" last night really struck a chord with me - I didn't even get any sleep. I re-evaluated my life plan and came to the realization that shouldn't be resting on where I come from alone. There is no reason to be slipping in any area of my life - including style - and I realized now is the time to get out my dreams and goals.

Time waits for no man and now is always the time to get something started - or keep going. I made a promise to myself to follow through with all my plans and to, by all means, be successful and to attain a higher status in life. There is never an excuses for people not to be on the grind, period - even before we had a black president. Move forward in life, connect with the right people, grow, and flourish.

I've always been called Carlton Banks and when I saw this shirt I had to have it.

Today, I decided to try something new. Well actually it's a spin on something old, good ol' fashioned grits. Most people call these grits cakes but that sounds a little bit unappetizing - any suggestions?? To put a mainstream twist on it you could switch up the grits with polenta or any other variety of grits (grits-like grain).

Southern Fried Grits Cakes
-Make three to six servings of Grits
-Add 1 cup of shredded cheese and bacon/chicken
- Refrigerate in a sprayed baking pan for one hour to thicken consistency
- Using a cookie cutter, cut out circles of grits
- lightly dust the cakes with flour
- dip them in a buttermilk and then into generously seasoned flour (completes the batter)
- fry them in a skillet for 3 to 5 minutes on medium high heat
- let them rest on paper towel to get rid of excess oil
- Serve with your favorite sauce and enjoy

This combo has always interest me. You don't see too many people try this out and make it look serious, but I feel some people this fall will get a little ambitious. I've always liked the idea of pairing sweats with cardigans - and even blazers. The most important point in choosing a pair is to look for the right fit and the quality fabric. I've even seen editorials using $5 Hanes sweats and mixing it with cardigans and blazers of good quality. I can easily see this on any college campus because it's a well thought out look, but effortlessly stylish and very interesting. I can now say I'm officially not on the fence with this look - I like it.

I'm new to blogging and bSEEN is still underway. I'm finding my niche in this world which is why I ask well known bloggers what does it take to run a successful blog? This bright idea came to me one day after reading all of my favorite blogs. I went out on a limb and asked by sending emails. No one responded except for one.

One day while in church my blackberry went off. I glanced at it saw an unfamiliar email address with the name Scott Schuman on it. I read it at lunch after church and to my surprize It was The Sartorialist!

The one person I expected not to hear from emailed me - I felt so special even though I know he probably responds to millions of email like mine. I was elated - like some waitress slipped me her number or something.

The email basically said to continue blogging, be persistent, and consistent. Post things pertaining to your genre and something reader will enjoy. He also said be patient and branch yourself out. Words I needed to hear at that time not only with blogging, but with school.

It's ironic because the message that Sunday was "Following your dreams." Which is the story of my life right now - well on the way to med-school, internships, traveling, ect... I heard something yesterday that stood out for me from Denzel Washington. He basically said enjoy the experience [of school] - cause you're not going to be a doctor [or whatever] all your life.

Even though for me, I know I'm destined to be an outstanding physician - I also want to do somethings in the fashion world. I enjoy being a college student even though the school I'm at isn't what I thought it would be - Thankfully. hopefully this upcoming fall is, will be my last semester before I head to a school in the city (Atlanta). I really enjoyed the experiences I have had on the campus of Fort Valley State University and trust me I am very thankful for being there.

Summer is a time of reflecting, scheming, figuring what's next. I'm am focused, determined, and ambitious - all the characteristics to being successful. I want to that you Mr. Schuman, for answering my email...

Lynchburg to be exact, nine years. Now I'm back with my family in Atlanta (thank god) - fun time though...

Commonwealth in a nutshell: cool design, shoes, and clothes - voted top place to shop by GQ and other magazines. Been to a few of there events; cool. Staff is cool... Everything is cool... But for real it's IT, I like it.

While there I always liked shopping at this store, Commonwealth in Virginia Beach and now it's in Washington DC. I was always ahead of everyone (in Lynchburg) and shopping here no one could tell me nothing!!! At least I left a legacy...

Something is on my mind.....

I can't get this city off of my mind; It's consuming my every thought. It's something about Washington DC that makes me feel good. It's certainly not the fashion capitol, but I feel a very chic elegance coolness every time I go there( shout-out: Commonwealth "C'Monwealth"). There's always a sophisticated vibe when I'm there that even makes me step my game up.

During the semester off I find myself in constant thought about what's next. My grades are fledgling and I have scholarships coming my way, but I feel like there's something missing. I'm at Fort Valley State University (THE Fort Valley State University, lol) now, and know that my time there is drawing to a close. I feel an emptiness and it's sad to see majority of the students there for the wrong reason (who comes to college to chill and live off a $2,000 refund check, WTF!) - and I can't be associated with that... I can officially say Fall 2009 will be my last semester at FVSU and then on to better and bigger and hopefully more "Maroonier" things (I believe I receive, in the name of Jesus), I hope to be in Atlanta (home base).

Now, I sit back and think of the connections I can make in another town and how those will be vital to my overall success. Yes, I'm into fashion and would love to do some things in that world, but I also know that it's a short lived career. Many people don't know that I am going to med-school to become a physician (most likely a surgeon). Many internships are finding there way into my hands and I have a yearning to travel this summer. My plan is to cause some chaos in a city and come back with a slue of connections and next summer off to another city to branch myself out, but until know I'm waiting of that call - wish me luck readers...

This summer I'm heading to the New York thanks to a proposal from my friend - thanks Shaina. It seems like NY is going to be filled with people I know from now and way back when. My friend Reggie recently moved to the city and was rescued from small town hell - Lynchburg, VA. Thankfully I don't have to see that dump again.

Lucky for me he's not too far from a store that has been on the up and up since 2006. Brooklyn Circus is a store and has its on featured label. I've seen it down here in Atlanta and I keep getting picture with people wearing their signature Letterman jackets. So looks like I'll be tipping through Nevins St. on my Summer 2009 Tour - stay tuned...

Yesterday I got the new "Paranoid" video and I'm glad I didn't post it, because that's the outdated version according Kanye. The videos were quickly snatches just as quick as they were leaked. The original video is being tweaked to Kanye's standards and is sure to be hot. And of course who can for get Rihanna (I hate saying Rhi-Rhi, sounds tre ghe-tto). Who can forget Frankie and Neffe the mother and sister of singer Keyshia Cole and scene jocks of BET's "The Way It Is". The way it is now is that Frankie and Neffe have their own show which premieres August 25th

The show is centered around their lives away from Keyshia Cole and the drama that follows - as usual. This is sure to be a must watch - at least to me it is - because of the attention they attract. I've seen them personally around town and they always cause a scene - it was a good scene that night.

We all know they've been doing their things in the meantime. Neffe has her book and Frankie is slowly becoming a staple on the airways here. One theme the show focuses on is about them gaining financial independence, which is imperative because Neffe has six children (reportedly) and one on the way. The father is up and coming rapper So Low.

While it is confirmed they have a show, I'm not sure the name. Many names have been tossed around so far but, it's safe to call it the "Frankie and Neffe show" - the name says it all.

Remember those days when everyone smoked on prime time TV, including news anchors. I don't, but I do know that it looked very stylish when the Rat Pack or the various late show hosts would interview guest with a cigarette in hand. Something about the smell of a burning cigarette is welcoming, that is until that smell doesn't come out of your clothes after nineteen trips to the dry cleaners. This was an era when a well tailored suit was the norm; equivalent to our jeans, t-shirt, and hoodie...
